LIGHT AIMING GUIDE |

To
achieve optimum performance and avoid disruptive light reflection
into oncoming vehicle's driver eyes from the auxiliary
lamp, such as additional driving light or fog light, proper auxiliary
driving light and fog light aiming is important to supplementary lighting
system installation.
The danger comes from the beam pattern being aimed
right into oncoming vehicles thus blinding the driver. For further clarification
and definitions of different types of lights and their intended
use, check out the auxiliary
lamp selection guide. |
FOG/FOUL
WEATHER
LIGHTS |
In order
to minimizing the amount of return glare from the additional
driving light and fog light into the driver's
eyes, and oncoming driver's eyes. Traditional fog light are usually
mounted under the front bumper about 10-24 inches from the ground.
When
you are installing the supplementary lighting system, you must accomplish
both issues by following the fog/foul weather light aiming instructions,
which are suggestions taken from common practice and the S.A.E. standard
J583. Some modifications to these instructions may be necessary to minimize
glare, while you are putting as much light as possible on the road.
Visual aim is
made with the top of the beam 4 inches below
the lamp center at 25 feet with the lamp facing straight forward.

DRIVING
LIGHTS |
Typically,
driving lights are mounted above the front bumper about
14-30 inches from the ground to provide extra high beam illumination.
Even
though driving lights can be mounted below the bumper, they
will not be as effective as positioned above the front bumper. When the
additional
driving lights are installed below the bumper, the range of the light
will be decreased because of the reduced duration of light traveling
in air.
Visual aim is made with the center
of the beam hot spot
1.5 inches below the lamp center at 25 feet with the lamp facing
straight forward. (See below.)
